The Arvigo® Techniques of Maya Abdominal Therapy are a supportive modality to enhance your health and wellness. This group of techniques are preventative and restorative.

The Maya abdominal massage which is part of the Arvigo® Therapies is a gentle non-invasive, external massage that is effective for anyone. The combination of techniques works by relieving any inner congestion. Improving the flow of circulatory, lymphatic, fluid and nervous systems and the Qi (pronounced ‘chee’) allows your body to heal itself.

Gentle self massage improves organ function by releasing especially any soft tissue or physical physical blockages, and stored emotional congestion from your entire body – not just your abdomen. This then guides the internal structures and abdominal organs back into their proper position for optimum health and well being.

In the Maya tradition, all women at puberty were taught how to look after their changing bodies. In your individual session, I show you how to care very differently for yourself. Allied to the Mayan techniques, Dr Rosita Arvigo also added to this the napropathic (village chiropractic from Czechoslovakia) moves. As part of the session, your back is also attended to. This alone may make an astonishing difference to your life.

Almost all problems are reduced as the structure is gently returned to normal, allowing optimal nerve, lymphatic and Qi and blood flow to be restored. Reverently working on yourself as your self care practice will make a considerable difference to all conditions that have previously upset you.

 History

The Arvigo® Techniques of Maya Abdominal Therapy are founded on the ancient Mayan technique of abdominal massage and other supportive tools. Based on over thirty years of training and experience in massage, naprapathy, herbology, and spiritual healing, Dr. Rosita Arvigo developed these techniques which now bear her name.

This modality incorporates a holistic approach to health, emotional and spiritual healing. Dr. Arvigo believes that with any natural healing technique, these areas must be simultaneously addressed to promote optimal health. Dr. Arvigo learned these techniques from her mentor, Don Elijio Panti, the great Maya Shaman of Belize, Central America with whom she apprenticed for 10 years. Don Elijio passed away in 1996 at the age of 103. Rosita also studied with Hortence Robinson, a 73 year old herbal midwife of Belize who has been delivering babies since she was 13.

Digestion and Maya Abdominal Therapy

Maya Abdominal Therapy is a keyfactor in helping to relax the diaphragm, loosen the tight muscles around the stomach and the arteries that feed the digestive and eliminative organs with their vital blood supply. The digestion works to convert food to energy and basic nutrients to feed the body. With the many anxieties and stuck/repressed emotions held/stored in our body’s tissues and organs this may be a fraught process, often giving rise to symptoms and discomfort.

A very common place is in the organs of the digestive system. Stress messes with our ability to even digest our food – leaving us wide open to all degenerative conditions and discomforts. Poor digestion can affect our overall picture of health as approximately 80% of our immune system cells line the gastrointestinal tract. From a state of low immunity, most symptoms, allergies and degenerative conditions can begin.

Maya Abdominal work can do for you:

  • Unblock the digestive flows and organs
  • Reduce gut distress
  • Increase assimilation of nutrients
  • Ease all inflammatory and constipation

Often there is a dramatic improvement after just one session combined with proper diet and self care massage.

  • Conditions that benefit
  • Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS)
  • Low Energy
  • Crohn’s Disease
  • Gastro Esophogeal Reflux (GERD)
  • Chronic indigestion or heartburn
  • Gastritis
  • Restricted breathing due to tension

Don Elijio believed that a woman’s centre is her uterus. “If a woman’s uterus is out of balance, so is she,” he would say. Midwives and healers of Central America agree that most female troubles are caused by the wandering womb. Most women experience a displaced or tilted uterus at some stage of their lives.

Often their problems all through their body – including their back aches and leg circulation woes are simply a referral as her uterus is lying where it should not.
